Wondering how? Simply specify the charity name on your beneficiary designation form. Be sure to review your beneficiary recipients once a year or every five years at minimum.

It had been over a decade since I used my daughters craft box from middle school. There I was on my tippy toes, on a chair, reaching well passed my finger tips to grab the plastic container full of riches.

Finally I had enough oomph to pull it down and place it on the floor. My eyes got a little glassy as I wiped the dust off the top with my shirt sleeve. I opened the lid and the memories triggered tears. Happy tears at that. This box was one of the staples in raising my daughter.

She is still wonderfully creative and a joyful learner as an adult. But today my mission has been inspired from a much different source, the pandemic. The chain was looped all the way around the tree from top to bottom. Then, the icicles were tossed on the evergreen for the finishing touch. Years that we went overboard with our scissors and paper, our mom would hang the extra chains up over the windows and in the door frames. So festive, so simple, so us. Our whole family took part in decorating the tree.

When we were finished, mom would shew us to our rooms to get ready for bed. Once our jammies were on we scurried back down the stairs where the Christmas tree was lit and quiet embers in the fireplace were glowing.

The recollection spurred me on. I was fixed on making each of my siblings, and my daughter and son-in-law, a paper chain of their own. As I started to cut to colorful paper into strips my mind swirled with an outpouring of adoration. Yes, these paper chains were made with love. I made six 8ft chains, and no two were alike. For each of my brothers and sisters I wrote a special note reciting a favorite antidote from our childhood. I was delighted when the project was completed.

I carefully folded each paper chain and slipped it into a deep envelope. I took them to the post office for a personal send off. You can reach her at cgraham bethlen. This classic metallic pairs well with traditional crimson red and evergreen shades that will give your home a timeless holiday feeling.

Feeling adventurous this year? Gold tones play well with unconventional holiday colors like purple, blue and pastel pink. Using gold will anchor any holiday color palette you create this season.

Delightful Details Life is in the details! Taking the time to add a special touch to your miniature world will breathe life into it. Look for pieces that light up like streetlamps or items that move, such as a train that circles the town. Movement and lighting create atmosphere and personality. Running low on space? This may be the easiest one yet. Designing your own holiday wreath is easy, cost friendly and fun!

Visit your local craft store for a foam ring, artificial stems, ribbon and ornaments. Buying these items individually allows you to control the cost of the supplies, while also customizing the look and feel of your wreath. To save on the price of artificial stems, buy green tinsel to mimic the look of a full evergreen branch. Take a nature walk to collect pinecones and berries to add texture and dimension.

When assembling the wreath, use garden wire or a hot glue gun to secure your pieces in place. This wine is meant to be cellared and enjoyed on a special occasion. Available at mcgregorwinery.

Make A Budget and Stick To It It’s easy to get lost in the moment and overspend when buying the perfect gift for a loved one. But not having a budget can quickly take a toll on your pocketbook. Before your shopping trip, determine the amount of money you plan to spend for each person on your list.

As an added tip, consider placing your allotted funds into an envelope rather than using a credit or debit card. Once the envelope is empty, you know you’ve reached your max budget. If yes, you may be overspending. Start making a list a few months in advance so you can compare price points on products. Plus, you’ll avoid grabbing a gift that may be out of your price range because you’re short on time.

Create Homemade Gifts Have you recently started a new hobby such as knitting or needlepoint? Or maybe you’ve perfected your sourdough bread or pizzelle recipe? How about scrapbooking and capturing moments from the past few years? Make your your leisure-time activity into gifts for friends and family. These DIY presents may take a little extra time but they’ll be much easier on the wallet. Find Inexpensive Activities The holidays don’t have to be centered around spending money.

There are plenty of free or inexpensive activities right at your fingertips. Take a drive around the neighborhood to admire the decorations and lights. Make hot cocoa and watch your favorite holiday movie.

Go sledding in a friend’s backyard. You may even establish a new tradition or two. Suggest A Potluck Dinner Preparing a meal for your aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and maybe even a cousin twice removed can get pricey. Try suggesting a potluck meal where everyone brings something; yes, even the paper plates and plasticware. It gives everyone the opportunity to let their culinary skills shine while lessening the burden on your wallet. If you proceed with this option, remember to keep track of who’s making what.

You don’t want everyone to show up with a dip or dessert. You can even assign the kids to fun activities or games. Be sure to check these platforms before making your next purchase. Don’t just limit yourself to retailers; you can also use some of these platforms to save on groceries.

Earn Points On Gift Cards Many grocery stores offer perks or points on all purchases, which means you can also earn rewards when purchasing gift cards.
